THE FUND TODAY

The Oliphant Endowment Fund both brings together and expands the range of programs supporting physics at ANU. The programs include:

  • Jagadishwar Mahanty Prize - presented bi-annually for the best physics PhD thesis;
  • Oliphant Endowment Fund Postdoctoral Fellowship - provides a unique opportunity for an outstanding early-career researcher to join any of the cutting-edge research areas in physics. As well as an enhanced salary, the successful candidate receives up to $20,000 in research funding over the two-year tenure;
  • Robert and Helen Crompton Travel Scholarship - provides funds for outstanding physics students to attend conferences and make laboratory visits, as well as act as ANU ambassadors in their particular field of research;
  • Tom Rhymes Technical Development Award - supports the professional development of outstanding technical staff in the physical sciences; and
  • Wanda Henry Prize for Optical Communications - awarded to the best physics student who has undertaken the course in Optical Fibre Communications Systems.
